Abortion's blind eye to our past

One argument in favor of keeping abortions legal is the fear of having them performed illegally and unsafely. It is the infamous coat hanger images of botched abortions in dark alleys of yesterday that we want to stay away from. A coat hanger "should never be a surgical device" is the cry among some of the supporters. "Never going back" is another.

It is hard to believe it, but some doctors would have no regard for their patient's safety or well being. That a doctor would defy the law in order to make a quick buck and "help" someone caught between a rock and a hard spot. That they would turn a blind eye even to do something that is against the law.

There are many parallels to illegal abortions of the past and the "legal" ones performed today. This is why this quote caught my attention...
“I can tell you from experience that Planned Parenthood often turns a blind eye to sexual abuse and trafficking..."
It is about sexual abuse, and trafficking. It is about doctors who have no regard for the law. It is about an abortion rate of 40% in New York City. And it doesn't just stop there... the list goes on and on when we think about it.

Shouldn't we have learned from our past?

My Super Bowl prediction

I am a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I have learned that you can never count them out of the game until it is finished. From the way the team conducts it's business, you couldn't ask for a team more focused on the game.

But, it's Ground Hog's day. Most people waited to see if Punxsutawney Phil would see his shadow and make a prediction. Here is the official statement:

Here Ye, Hear Ye, Hear Ye
Groundhog Day, February 2, 2011
Punxsutawney Phil was raised from his burrow
By the call of President Bill Deeley.
He greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths.
After casting an inquisitive eye towards thousands of his faithful followers, He proclaimed that the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl!

Back to the business at hand...
He surveyed his surroundings carefully and found that there was no shadow around, So, an early spring it will be.
So, it's official... the Steelers are gonna win the Super Bowl. And here are some reasons why I agree.

  1. The Green Bay Packers entered into the playoffs as the number 6 seed. In the previous 44 years of the games, only one team has done that and won. The irony is, that was the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  2. Both teams are running the same style of defense. Both Quarter Backs can scramble and throw. It's about experience. The Steelers have more Super Bowl experience. The Packers haven't been in the Super Bowl since 1998. The Steelers have 3 trips within the last 6 years. But, it comes down to who can do their job with all the pressure. The experience will pay off for the Steelers.
  3. Punxsutawney Phil said so.
