NARAL, Pro-Choice America. What an interesting organization. They spout out "reasons" that abortion should be legal. Their whole premises centers around a woman being able to make a choice on their own. And they churn out emails and petition politicians and ask for your money because you may feel that their cause is worth the fight.
I receive emails from the NARAL. Not because I support their cause, but because I want to be aware of this issue. If there is something going on, I want to be informed. But yet, I often times see how the facts often times get skewed to the point of being deceptive. (Don't get me wrong, the religious right has a few organizations like this... like the American Families Association.)
But I recently received an email from NARAL that talks about some "anti-choice measures" that the Florida Legislature has passed. They feel that Governor Rick Scott should stay out of "our private lives." They feel that these measures are part of a "divisive social agenda."
But... the one fact that they often times will fall upon is deception. This is the text from their blog and their email:
Women in the exchange could be forced to pay out of pocket for abortion services – even women who experience heart-breaking complications, such as a fetal anomaly, or where abortion care is necessary to protect a woman’s health.
Really? Have they ever looked at the statistics? Do they know 3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities and not when medically necessary? Do they know that 47% of women who have abortions had at least one previous abortion? (See here.)
The NARAL's best (yet debatable) arguments always centers around money, not a woman's rights. These women don't need NARAL to stand up for them. These women need to be told that they are not alone. There are countless others like them that are hurting just like they are. These women need someone who understands.
